Alyssa Cochran is an attorney who practices out of Kightlinger & Gray’s New Albany office. Alyssa joined the firm in 2016 and currently focuses her practice on Appellate cases. Prior to joining Kightlinger & Gray, she served a two year-stint as a legal advisor to Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David. In that role, Alyssa worked closely with Justice David by making legal recommendations on cases seeking transfer to the Indiana Supreme Court, researching and drafting opinions, and reviewing all draft opinions prepared by the Justices of the Court.
Alyssa’s background includes experience in the public sector, having spent a year as a legal intern with the Office of Assistant Chief Counsel of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, where she assisted in litigation preparation and drafted legal recommendations on administrative tort claims. She also served as staff in the offices of a U.S. congressman and a U.S. senator.
As an undergraduate at Indiana University, Alyssa spent two years as co-founder and treasurer of the Indiana Ecuador Partnership for Sustainable Development, where she worked to foster a fair trade market for a traditional women’s craft industry in Ecuador. In conjunction with this role, she participated in Indiana University Southeast’s Diversity Education Program, spending three weeks in Ecuador. Alyssa’s academic performance at Indiana University also earned her membership in the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Alyssa earned her J.D. from Indiana University McKinney School of Law, where she served as an editor of the Indiana International & Comparative Law Review, participated in moot court and served on the moot court board, and was an active member and co-chair of the Women Law Caucus. Alyssa continues to be an active member of the Indiana State Bar Association, serving on the Women in Law Committee and the Young Lawyers Section.
