LEGAL ASSISTANT

Kightlinger & Gray is looking for a talented Legal Assistant for a full-time employment opportunity based out of its downtown Indianapolis office. Candidates should enjoy working closely with a partner and associate team who specialize in product liability, and business and estate practices.

Requirements:

  • Three or more years of general civil litigation experience required in a law firm or professional services setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; working knowledge of Excel
  • Experience with e-filing in state and federal courts
  • Excellent proofreading, spelling and grammar skills
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess superior organization skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Superior  time management skills with the ability to multi-task and meet internal and external deadlines
  • Team oriented, collaborative, can do attitude

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

  • Prepare routine correspondence, pleadings and legal documents, and assist with preliminary drafts
  • Process new business intake information
  • Maintain and manage calendars
  • Monitor incoming mail and e-mail; answer phones
  • Schedule meetings and appointments, and coordinate travel arrangements, meeting and deposition logistics, and conference calls
  • Communicate with clients, counsel, courts, etc.
  • Client billing

PARALEGAL

Kightlinger & Gray is seeking a full-time Paralegal for its downtown Indianapolis office.  This position will work with a team of experienced civil litigation attorneys, with a focus on workers compensation and/or employment law matters.

Candidate should possess:

  • Two or more years of general civil litigation experience required
  • Working knowledge of the flow of litigation required
  • Working knowledge of the laws and rules applicable to civil litigation required; experience with Indiana Workers Compensation Board procedures beneficial
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as, Adobe and pdf converter software
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred
  • Experience working with records, including acquisition of medical records, billing, and employment records, and preparation of appropriate summaries and expense itemizations required
  • Ability to manage heavy case list independently
  • Ability to meet monthly billable/non-billable goals
  • Strong work ethic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate with experts such as doctor’s offices, adjusters, employers, and opposing counsel
  • Strong organizational, research and writing skills
  • Ability to multi-task with a high degree of attention to detail

Primary duties include:

  • Summarizing medical records, employment records, claim files, and other records
  • Performing investigative research via online programs, software, and databases
  • Assist with document production, including gathering and reviewing key documents
  • Assisting with trial preparation
  • Drafting correspondence, discovery, and pleadings
  • Participate in special projects, as requested
